History of the RSL Name Changes
June 1916 – Conference of Returned Soldier’s Associates recommended the formation of the Returned Sailors and Soldiers Imperial League of Australia (RSSILA)
September 1916 – First RSSILA Congress (delegates from Queensland, Suth Australia, Tasmania and Victoria)
May 1917 – NSW was admitted to the League
August 1918 – WA was admitted to the League
January 1927 – ACT was admitted to the League
November 1940 – Name was changed to Returned Sailors’ Soldier’s and Airman’s Imperial League of Australia
October 1965 – Name changed to Returned Services League of Australia
September 1983 – Name changed to Returned Services League of Australia Limited
September 1990 – Name changed to Returned & Services League of Australia Limited
